Problems with Pond Beavers, Otters and Muskrats

Question: Are beavers, otters and muskrats problematic for a pond or lake?

Answer: Generally, beavers are considered part of a nuisance just because of their damming ability and they’ll disrupt the designed function of your control structure. Otters are federally protected, and they’re generally not very favorable on a stocked pond. Muskrats are a problem just because they burrow underneath the shoreline and cause erosion problems. So in all, they do have their fit in nature but they are sometimes problematic.
