Reasons for Fish Dying in Pond

Question: What are some reasons that fish may be dying in my pond or lake?

Answer: There’s a lot of reasons for fish kills. A primary reason would be low oxygen, which is not uncommon in this area without supplemental aeration. Some other reasons could be toxic algae cyanobacteria bloom that can cause a known toxin producer. One that’s not very common that we see from time to time is a pond that ends up losing 25 or 30 blue gill in an acre size pond. Come to find out, it’s from fire ant consumption. So there’s lots of reasons for what could cause a fish kill.
