Removing Sediment from Bottom of Lake Importance

Question: Why is it important to remove sediment from the bottom of a pond or lake?

Answer: So, sediment in the bottom of the pond can cause two problems. One, you’re storing the impurities and nutrients that it was designed to catch, so it can cause excess algae blooms. The other one is capacity. The pond itself is designed to hold a certain amount of gallons before it flows out into a public water system. So when the capacity is diminished, the design of the actual stormwater pond won’t work.
