Test Pond or Lake Water Chemistry after Hurricane

Question: Should I test my pond or lake water chemistry after a tropical storm or hurricane event?

Answer: I would suggest that you check your water after a storm water or hurricane event, mostly for contaminants. A lot of the retention ponds around the southeast/mid-south, they’re designed as retention ponds. And so they’re going to collect the bad stuff that could get into a pond. Generally a good baseline chemistry, a total coliform with e-coli identification chemistry and hydrocarbons are the ones that you want to look for.
