Treat Pond or Lake for Mosquitos after Hurricane

Question: After Hurricane Matthew, the mosquitos have been bad. Is there anything a pond owner can do to minimize the mosquitos?

Answer: There’s no one mosquito treatment that can be effective to control all mosquitos. Generally, it’s an adaptive plan. If you’re a pond owner, you can start with larvicide applications in the pond. Generally these larvicide applications are a BP product that slowly dissolves and it only affects mosquito larvae. The cycle of mosquitos, not only do you need to do adulticide treatments, either aerial or ULV, but if you stop the cycle by getting rid of larvae in the pond, you will greatly improve the effectiveness of your program.
